A typical domain looks something like this: subdomain.rootdomain.topleveldomain.

There are no restrictions on the subdomain you choose. Typically websites use www or shop subdomains which may be easier for your shoppers to remember how to find you. In fact, you can create as many subdomains as you want. These subdomains can point to different websites entirely, all within the same root domain. This is typical of a business that has a blog and an online store, where the blog can be found at www and the online store at shop.

NOTE: A domain without a subdomain for example rootdomain.com is known as a bare or root domain. If you are in North America, South America and Australia, you can only use domains with a subdomain when connecting your store to eCom. However, you can forward your bare domain to your full domain by contacting your domain provider.
