Migrating from the Lightspeed email service

Since we launched our email service, email technology and competitive services have come a long way. That is why we have made the decision to stop supporting the email service as of October 12th, and to ultimately close the service on 1 February 2019.

This guide covers the steps you need to take to save and migrate your email service. You can use the steps below to see if you have done everything to transfer email services.

Please contact our Support team via the Help Centre if you need assistance at any time during this process. Support for the migration will end on October 12th.

Step 1: Checking your domain connection method

To start, you will need to check how your domain is connected to your eCom store. You may need to update your domain connection settings to continue using your branded email address.

How to:

  1. To check which domain connection method you are using, go to who.is and insert your eCom shop url in the bar on top.

  2. Click on DNS Records

  3. Look for the Type column in the DNS Records table, the keyword to look for is: .webshopapp.com, as shown below. If your eCom store has 3 NS records containing .webshopapp.com, like the example below, proceed to Step 2.

    • If it shows anything other than ns1.webshopapp.com. For instance, like the picture below, you can proceed to step 3.

    • It will also show an A server with an IP address:

NOTE: Please check if there are no additional records within your DNS, that have been created by apps. If there are, please make sure to copy down those records and then add them when you are updating your host provider.

Step 2: How to turn off forwarding email

If you are having your emails automatically forwarded to another email address, you will need to disable this. Otherwise logging in to your email service will not be possible.

How to:

  1. In the back office of your eCom store, go to Settings
  2. Click on Domain & emails
  3. Make sure you are looking at the email section by clicking on:

  4. If an email address is being forwarded it will appear like this:

  5. Every email that is being forwarded needs to be turned off separately. To do this, click on that specific email address and disable forwarding by clicking on the blue icon.

Step 3: Download emails from the email server

Downloading your emails allows to import your emails to another service, plus provide a file for further storing and backing up the emails.

How to:

  1. Open up Webmail
  2. To download the email from the server select all emails, by using the the shift key on your keyboard. Then click on the Grey wheel, as shown below, and then select: Download (.eml).

  3. Automatically a file will be downloaded containing all your emails.

Make sure to do this for both Inbox and Sent emails!

Step 4: Download contacts from the email server

Downloading your contacts allows you to import your contacts to another service, plus provide a file for further storing and backing up the contacts.

How to:

  1. Open up Webmail
  2. To download your contacts, open up the address book by clicking on the following button in the top right corner:Step5.2.png
  3. Open the dropdown box next to the folder button and select: Export all

  4. Automatically a file with download to your computer with all your contacts.

Step 5: Migrating to another email service

Google Apps

We recommend migrating your email service G Suite by Google, a great email service which allows integrating with many other Google features with 30GB storage. If you want to set up a G Suite account, you can get a 20% discount on the first year by clicking here.

How to migrate to G Suite:

  1. Set up a business account
  2. Add people to your G Suite account
  3. Follow the steps to verify your domain and set up email
  4. To verify your domain:
    • Select the option to add a meta tag
    • A meta tag will be  displayed and may look similar to this:
      <META NAME="google-site-verification" CONTENT=" +nxGUDJ4QpAZ5l9Bsjdi102tLVC21AIh5d1Nl23908vVuFHs34="/>
    • Copy this code part of the code given by Google: nxGUDJ4QpAZ5l9Bsjdi102tLVC21AIh5d1Nl23908vVuFHs34=
    • On the left menu of the eCom Back Office navigate to Settings and then Web Extras.
    • In the Google Search Console area enter the code in the Meta tags section. You can add several meta tags, separated with commas (no spaces).

    • Activate Status and save your changes.

How to import your eml. File to Gmail

  1. Download an .eml to Gmail converter, for instance a trial version:
  2. After downloading and installing, run the tool
  3. Provide Gmail account login details
  4. Load .eml files or folder having .eml files
  5. Upload EML to Gmail
  6. Check if your emails are uploaded to Gmail correctly, otherwise contact support of the converter tool you used.

How to import your contacts to Gmail:

  1. Open your Gmail or G Suite account.
  2. On the top right corner click on the Google apps Icon: Step6_How_to_import_your_contacts_to_G_Suite-icon-point2.png.png, and select Contacts
  3. On the left side of the screen click on more and then select Import.

  4. Select the option CVS or vCard file, then click on select file
  5. Find the file with all your contacts created in step 5
  6. Your contacts will have been imported to your Gmail or G Suite account.

Outlook

Migrating your emails to Outlook:

  1. Open up Outlook
  2. Import the emails by dragging  and dropping the .eml files into Outlook
  3. You can also use an eml. To Outlook converter

Apple Mail

Migrating your emails to Apple Mail:

  1. Open Apple Mail
  2. Select .eml files by clicking (Ctrl+A)
  3. Import the emails by dragging  and dropping the .eml files into Apple Mail

Using your domain provider for email services.

You can also contact your domain provider to see if they have an email service available and you can set it up through them.

Frequently asked Questions

Q: What happens to emails sent to my old email address after the service is closed?
Any emails sent to your old address will not be received. The sender is likely to get an email back to say that their email wasn’t delivered.

Q: I failed to retrieve my emails before the deadline. What can I do?
Unfortunately, when the email service has now closed and it is no longer possible for you to access your account.

Q: What will happen to all personal data after the service has closed?
In line with privacy legislation, all personal data will be destroyed shortly after the service has closed.
