Transferring gift card balances

You can transfer the remaining balance on a canceled gift card to a new or existing gift card. This is especially helpful if a customer lost their gift card and would like a new one, for example.

 

Note: At this time, you can only transfer a balance to a new or existing gift card that has a balance of zero.

 

To transfer a gift card balance:

 

  1. From the main menu, go to Customers Gift Cards
    Note: If you have a physical store, you can also go to Customers > Gift cards from Lightspeed Retail.
  2. Search for your customer's gift card number. You can also use the Canceled tab to filter the list and help you find your customer's canceled gift card.
  3. Select the gift card number to open its details.
  4. Select Transfer balance.
  5. Optionally, enter a gift card code. If you leave this field empty, a unique gift card code will be automatically generated.
  6. Enter your customer's email address.
  7. Select Transfer balance.

 

The remaining balance on the canceled gift card is now transferred to the new gift card. An email that includes the gift card code and amount is also sent to your customer.
