When a customer clicks Proceed to checkout in your online store, they're redirected to a checkout area, consisting of these stages:
- New or registered customer screen
- Customer information
- Shipping method
- Payment method
- Order confirmation
- Thank you page
If a customer on your online store hasn't yet logged in, they're redirected to a login page where they enter their email/password combination to access their account. The customer also has the option to log in using their Facebook account, provided you've enabled the social login option.
If the customer has not yet set up an account with your online store, they can either:
- register by clicking the Register button, and then, log in when they've completed the registration process to continue shopping
- or click Buy as a guest
You can disable guest checkout and enable social login in Settings > Advanced. To learn how, click here.
After logging in or buying as a guest, the customer is redirected to a customer information page, where they must enter personal information such as name, address and any other fields you've set as required information.
You can configure both required and/or optional fields in the Name and address area of the Advanced page, by navigating to Settings > GENERAL SETTINGS > Advanced. To learn how, click here.
This stage informs the customer about the shipping costs. What the customer sees in this stage depends on the shipping method(s) you configured under Settings > SHOP SETTINGS > Shipping Methods in the left menu of the Back Office.
If shipping methods are missing, shipping methods may not have been configured correctly. For troubleshooting steps, click here.
The next stage prompts the customer to select a payment method. You can configure these payment methods in Settings > PAYMENT SETTINGS > Payment Providers. For more information about payment providers, click here.
The final stage that a customer sees is the order confirmation. In this stage, the customer can submit comments that you'll see on the dashboard of the corresponding order.
In addition, the customer may have to accept your general terms and conditions, prior to placing their order and subscribing to your newsletter. This can be turned on or off in Settings > Advanced. To learn how, click here.
A Thank you page displays after the customer clicks Buy. It contains a summary of the order.
If a customer chose a payment method that takes payment on the provider's website, they are redirected there before viewing the thank you page.
The title and content of the thank you page can be edited in Content > Thank you for your purchase! page. To learn how, click here.
