Hi. How can we help?

Understanding the import tool

The importing tool in Lightspeed eCom allows you to add or edit information in bulk.

Your import file must be in .CSV format.

Information that can be imported

The import tool can be used to add or update the following information within your eCom store:

  • Products:
    • Importing new products: Use when receiving a lot of new inventory, or if switching to Lightspeed eCom for the first time.
    • Editing products: If you have many similar changes to make to several products in eCom, it's often faster to make bulk changes using an import.
  • Customers:
    • Importing customers is useful when migrating from another platform to Lightspeed eCom so you don't lose any of your customers' information.
  • Suppliers:
    • Import new suppliers that can later be linked to your products. You can also create suppliers automatically when importing products.
  • Redirects:
    • To preserve your search engine ranking, it's recommended that you create redirects when you switch from a previous online platform to Lightspeed eCom and keep the same web address.
  • Brands:
    • Import brands that can later be linked to your products.
  • Product filter values:
    • Link products to an existing filter and its filter values.
    • You can't currently import new filters or new filter values.
  • Specifications:
    • Provide additional information about your product.
  • Product specifications:
    • Specifications tied to a specific product.

Omnichannel user imports

Some eCom users have their eCom store connected to a point of sale, either Lightspeed Retail or Lightspeed OnSite, in a configuration known as an Omnichannel solution.

Omnichannel users have restrictions on what they can import because Omnichannel requires Retail or OnSite to be the source of certain information in eCom.

In eCom, Omnichannel users can only import:

  • Edits to products, excluding these product details:
    • Brand
    • Supplier
    • Variant title (default language)
    • Inventory tracking
    • Inventory quantity
    • Inventory warning level (Notify below)
    • Inventory minimum (Minimum quantity)
    • Price excluding or including tax
    • Cost price
    • Article code
    • Barcode (EAN)
    • SKU
  • Customers
  • Redirects
  • Product filter values

Backing up your data

eCom only stores import files for 90 days.

We strongly recommend saving each instance of your import spreadsheets as a separate file to prevent data loss.
