Adding stock to products

IMPORTANT: If your eCom store is connected to a Retail POS, your inventory cannot be managed in the eCom back office. Edit inventory levels in Lightspeed Retail.

An essential part of an eCom store is product stock levels. You can add a stock level that matches your physical inventory of a product.

By default, Lightspeed eCom is setup to stop selling a product when it is no longer in stock by displaying Out of stock on the product page. To learn how to hide a product when it is out of stock, read: Making products visible or hidden.

Setting the default stock level

By default, the stock level for a new product is 100.

  1. Login to your eCom Back Office and click Settings.
  2. Click Workflow located in the Store Settings column.
  3. Enter the a number in the field labeled Default stock level for new products, located in the section titled INVENTORY.
  4. Click Save.

Individually

  1. Login to your eCom Back Office and click Products.
  2. Open a product's settings by clicking the product title.
  3. Scroll down to the INVENTORY & VARIANTS section and open a variant's settings by clicking on the variant title.

  4. Scroll down to the INVENTORY section and add a number in the field labeled Quantity.
  5. Click Save.

By bulk

  1. Login to your eCom Back Office and click Products.
    1. For variants of one product: Open the product settings by clicking the product title. Scroll down to the INVENTORY & VARIANTS section.
    2. For variants of many products: In the sidebar on the left hand side of the screen, click Inventory.
  2. Enable the checkboxes beside the variants you want to modify. For all variants on the page, enable the checkbox in the top left of the table.
  3. Click the item(s) selected button and click Edit.
  4. Enable the checkbox beside Inventory.
  5. Answer the question Are all the values the same by selecting either Yes or No from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Enter the quantity for each variant on the screen in the field labeled Quantity.
  8. Click Save.

By import

When importing products, include a column called Stock_Level. For each product add a numeric value for the inventory quantity.

Editing by import

  1. Create a product export in Tools > Exports.
  2. Create a seperate import file that is different from your export file in Google Sheets or other spreadsheet software. Copy these column titles into your import file:
    Internal_ID Internal_Variant_ID XX_Title_Short Stock_Level
  3. Copy all the internal IDs and product titles from your product export and paste them in your import file. Add the stock level for each product.
  4. Import the spreadsheet in Tools > Imports.

Creating new products by import

  1. Create an import file in Google Sheets or other spreadsheet software. You can add any columns you need, these are the minimum required columns:
    XX_Title_Short Stock_Level
  2. Import the spreadsheet in Tools > Imports.
