Create Custom Fields

Besides using product options, creating custom fields with a product is an efficient method to add product variants to the product range of your online store.

Contrary to product options, no new products with their own inventory management will be created. This is useful if you want to offer your customers products in several variants, while keeping the product range of your store well-organized.

Creating custom fields

Create custom fields if several products within your offered range share the same feature(s). Do you need the same custom field for a number of products? If so, then you can also create a custom field.

  1. Navigate to CATALOG > Custom fields in the left menu of the back office.
  2. Now click the green plus icon in the navigation at the top of the screen. A pop-up window appears, where you can enter a name. It will only be used to establish links to products and is invisible to customers.
  3. After entering the name, click Save to create the field in question.
  4. You will be taken to the edit page of the custom field you just created. Click the Fields tab at the right at the top of the screen.
  5. You can now add custom fields on the following page. Click the green plus icon in the navigation at the top of the screen. A pop-up window appears, where you can enter the field type ( Type; drop-down menu ), name ( Name Dutch/English ). The name will be displayed above the field in the product pages of your online store.
  6. When you have finished, click Save to add the new custom field to the product in question.
  7. You will now be taken to the edit page of the custom field, where you can modify it further, if so desired.
  8. The only step that remains is adding the custom field to the product in question.

Creating custom fields with a product

  1. Navigate to CATALOG > Products in the left menu of the back office. Select the product you would like to add custom fields to and subsequently click the Custom fields tab at the right at the top of the product page.
  2. Now click the green plus icon in the navigation at the top of the screen. A pop-up window appears, where you can enter the field type ( Type; drop-down menu ), name ( Name Dutch/English ) and custom field set (note: this drop-down menu with predefined custom fields will only appear if you select the Text Field option with Type). If you immediately click the drop-down menu with custom fields you have already entered into the system, the Type and Name Dutch/English fields will not be displayed.
  3. When you have finished, click Save to add the new custom field to the product in question.
  4. You will now be taken to the edit page of the custom field, where you can modify it further, if so desired.

Editing a custom field

With each custom field, you can indicate whether completion is required. If so, customers can only place an order after filling the field in question. Depending on the field type, you can add values by clicking Add value. You can assign a name to a value through the Title field, and a price or percentage of the catalog price (this will be added to the product price when positive in value and deducted if negative). Only enter this price correction if the final product price varies from the one entered in the Price & stock tab through CATALOG > Products in the left menu of the back office.

Note: Price changes will be passed on in the shopping cart.
